Breakfast in the Classroom

Announcing Breakfast in the Classroom at Lee Elementary

March 24, 2014

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Eastmont Food Service Department and Lee Elementary are excited to offer a new breakfast program to all students attending Lee Elementary beginning after Spring Break on Monday, April 7, 2014.  Breakfast will be available to all students in the classroom for the first 8-10 minutes of the day.  This is a trial program and will be further evaluated in June to determine if the program will continue next school year.

During this trial period, every student will have a breakfast meal available in the classroom before school begins.  Students will no longer eat breakfast before school in the cafeteria.  Breakfast will only be served in the classrooms.

Staff will mark student names that eat breakfast onto a roster and that information will be included on the student’s meal account.

Students will eat while listening to morning announcements, taking classroom attendance, and working through starter activities in the classroom.

Breakfast Prices:

Students qualified for either Free Lunch OR for reduced lunch will receive Free Breakfast.

Full Priced Students who choose to have breakfast will be charged $1.50 to their student account.

(The principal may also use discretionary funds should a family not qualify for free/reduced status but still need financial support for the breakfast program.)

To enroll or clarify the process please call Mr. Lyons at 884-1497

During the first weeks of this program we understand that students and families may have some confusion as we try something new.  Be assured that if and when mistakes get made, we will make any corrections or deletions needed to each child’s account.  Just give us a call and we will work through this together.

This will be a great thing!  We are very lucky to have access to this program!

Studies have shown that students who ate breakfast at school had:

·        Increased math and reading scores

·        Fewer nurse’s office visits

·        Improved classroom behavior

·        Improved attentiveness reported by teachers

·        Improved performance reported by parents

·        Decreased student absences

·        Decreased student tardiness

It is also a benefit for busy families on the go!

For more information, please call Mr. Lyons at 884-1497 or Suzy Howard with Food Service at 884-3026

Sincerely,

Mat Lyons

SchoolBlocks offers a unique and powerful personalized search system. A member of the public, searching for "homework" might see an announcement from the school as the first result. However, if the user is logged in, they would see their teacher’s latest homework assignment as the top result.
